The Metropolitan Transportation Authority has invested millions in financial institutions that fund building hazardous oil pipelines on sacred Sioux land in North Dakota. The pipelines are poised to go under the Missouri River and beneath Lake Oahe, sources of drinking water for the Sioux Nation and millions of others. Digging the pipelines are Dakota Access Pipelines and Energy Transfer Partners.
Banks funding the pipelines that receive MTA investments include Chase, Bank of America, TD Bank, Wells Fargo and others.
Please join “Labor for Standing Rock” at the Wednesday, Jan. 25th MTA Board meeting when we demand that the MTA divest from banks that fund oil pipelines at Standing Rock.
We do not want our MetroCard’s used to violate Native American rights and endanger the environment!
The Obama administration put a temporary pause on the pipeline but President Trump has vowed to support its’ completion. A national divestment movement in solidarity with Standing Rock has resulted in over $44 million being withdrawn from institutions that fund pipelines at Standing Rock.
